Yes, nearly had a heart attack earlier this afternoon when I saw that one of our dogs had somehow gotten out of her cage and fell into the pond. She’s old and is suffering from arthritis so she can barely walk, she can only crawl, and she’s weak from being in a cage for years now.
FORTUNATELY:
- Our pond isn’t deep, it’s shallow
- Our dog managed to keep her head up as she struggled to get out
- And I happened to be downstairs eating when I saw her.
I immediately rushed outside and pulled her out. I felt SOOOO sorry for her and I was scared as well, she most likely was too, shivering from fear and the coldness of the water from the pond. I set her down on the ground for a bit before I picked her up again and carried her back to her cage.
I’m so thankful that I was at least there before it was too late and I’m also grateful that this didn’t happen at night otherwise no one in the house would have noticed. Now she’s back in her cage, safe and sound, though most likely shaken from the incident. There was like a bar thingy that was blocking the door before and it so happened that it was gone, so we think the door somehow opened and she fell out or something and tried to go somewhere. We had the bar placed back so that even though the door happens to open, she won’t fall out or anything.
Everyone, please cherish your pets. You never know what will happen.
